VCam Workshop

About this event

This workshop will be demonstrating the Peel Virtual Camera system for use with Unreal Engine in a live motion capture environment.

Learn about the capabilities of the system and see it in action to understand why this tool is a vital part of a production workflow, including use for previsualization and production animation.

In a motion capture session, performers often work in an empty space with little sense of the world their characters inhabit. To bridge that gap, a real-time visualization of the virtual environment can be displayed on a monitor for the director, providing immediate context and creative insight. At the same time, a Virtual Camera allows the team to explore the digital set dynamically - framing the action as it unfolds.

Although a Virtual Camera isn’t essential for every shoot, having one on hand opens up new creative possibilities. By viewing the scene through the live virtual lens, directors and cinematographers can make informed decisions about staging, performance, and camera placement, adjusting the action to best suit the composition of each shot.

The camera itself offers a wide range of interactive controls - from lens selection, focus, and positional offsets to recording, playback, and capturing multiple camera passes. These tools, accessible through an intuitive interface, give filmmakers the flexibility to experiment and refine their vision in real time.

In this workshop will explore the use of a virtual camera system as an essential production tool
